Think F.A.S.T Boxing Programme
Sefton Youth Justice Service has partnered with Think F.A.S.T Boxing Academy to deliver an early intervention programme for children in schools. The initiative provides a range of high quality health, fitness, educational, and personal development activities, designed to steer children away from anti-social behaviour and help them realise their potential within an educational and sporting environment.
The 10 week programme consists of one day per week of structured educational content alongside bespoke fitness and boxing coaching.
This intervention offers meaningful social support and development opportunities for Yr 9 and Yr 10 children. It aims to provide a structured programme for boys and girls and is particularly beneficial for children who struggle to maintain their school place, are at risk of exclusion, or may benefit from a short term, alternative approach to building confidence, resilience, and self-awareness. Each programme culminates in a graduation event during the final week.
To date, three programmes have been delivered. Participants have shown improved understanding of key community issues including drug use, knife crime, and child exploitation, while also strengthening friendships, overcoming personal challenges, and discovering new fitness interests.
Snapshot of feedback:
Schools
- “Programmes like this are crucial for young people. We have found that the behaviour of our students has greatly improved since starting the course.”
- “The lads made friends from another school—crossing boundaries is massive. This helps them become more open-minded about making friends outside their local area.”
- “Some of the lads now want to join the gym, which will keep them off the streets.”
Young People
- “I really enjoyed the guest speakers.”
- “I learned about how dangerous drugs and alcohol are.”
- “I learned how easy it is to get caught up and carry a knife. I definitely wouldn’t do that now. I understand how much trouble I’d get into.”
- “I wish I could stay on the programme longer. The boxing sessions have helped me fall back in love with the sport.”
- “Better behaviour”
